Introduction to SAP Cloud Integration (SAP CI)

What is Integration

Integration means to bridge two or more Systems. Integration establishes connectivity and enable exchange of Data between various Systems and Applications.

Need for Integration

Integration help couple various systems together, by means of Integration we can connect and start exchanging information in different formats among various system.

Often there is need to establish connectivity between systems to keep them in Sync and establish Real Time data transfer. Without means of connecting Systems it will be impossible to maintain data synch and unified governance.

Types of Integration

  • Process IntegrationSeamlessly integrate different Business Processes
  • Data Integration – Combine data from various sources in different forms and combine them into a unified view
  • People Integration – Brings people closed to empower better collaboration and work more effectively
  • Device Integration – Connect and Integrates various Devices and Applications to form a more unified Architecture

SAP’s Offering for Enterprise Integration

SAP offers two types of integration suites to support Enterprise Integration

  • Integration in Cloud with SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite
  • On Premise Integration with Process Orchestration

SAP Cloud Platform Integration

SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI) formerly HANA Cloud Integration (HCI) or SAP Cloud Integration (SCI) makes Cloud integration simple and reliable. SAP CPI is offered as Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) as part of SAP Cloud Platform.

It provides out-of-the-box connectivity across Cloud and On-Premise solutions.

Besides integration capabilities it also contains a Data Integration part that allows efficient and secure usage of ETL tasks to move data between Cloud and On-Premise systems.

Benefits of SAP Cloud Platform Integration

SAP CPI Connectivity

SAP Cloud Platform Integration suite support following types of Integration models:

  • Cloud-to-Cloud – SAP CPI can be used to connect various cloud hosted apps. These could be SAP or Non-SAP hosted Cloud solutions.

Example:

  • Integration of SAP SuccessFactors to S/4 HANA Cloud
  • ServiceNow integration with SAP Cloud solutions such as SuccessFactors, SAP C4H Cloud, S/4 HANA Cloud etc.
  • Cloud-to-On Premise – SAP CPI can establish secured connectivity to On-Premise systems via SAP Cloud Platform and Cloud Connector (Secure Tunnel)

Example:

  • Integration of Cloud Application to On-Premise Database
  • Connectivity to on-premise SFTP server
  • Backend application exposed as a service using SAP Cloud Connector
  • Hybrid Model – Cloud Platform Integration Suite Integration Flows can be deployed on on-premise SAP Process Orchestration

Supported Scenarios                                                                                                Integration Platform-as-a-Service (iPaaS) – facilitate the Orchestration of processes in and Enterprise

Accessing WebUI

There are primarily four components in Web User Interface.

  • Discover – Allows us to explore prepackage integration contents and API’s
  • Design – Workspace where Integration Artefacts are stored and designed
  • Monitor – Manage security materials and perform monitor of runtime Integration Artefacts
  • Setting – Allows to perform certain Admin activities

Conclusion

SAP CPI- Integration Service delivers unique Integration experience to customers addressing their Integration needs whereby delivering On-Premise, Cloud as well as Hybrid integration  experience without having to bother more about the Technical nitty gritty and scalability.
